There’s been a lot of talk of when you should change your oil in your vehicle. Most car garage chains say about 3,000 miles is the proper time to change your oil. Auto Manufacturers insist that the correct answer is after 5,000 – 7,500 miles. While the synthetic oil companies recommend 10,000 miles. Others have said to change the oil in your vehicle after 3 months no matter how many miles you’ve traveled in your vehicle. So how do we know which one is correct?
Many experts seem to have a slightly different response to this question. Here at A&C Auto Center, there are two factors that determine when your oil should be changed. Oil Change should be based on the use of the vehicle. For those who do not usually drive more than 10 miles in one trip should change their oil at least twice a year even if the total amount of miles driven in a year is less than 3,000 (the typical standard of what garages insist) The reason for that is because the oil doesn’t get hot enough to boil off condensation from the moisture. Another recommendation is that for those who do not warm up their car in the morning to heat up the oil should also get their oil changed twice a year. This is one of the main reasons why engine wear and tear occur.
For those commuters that drive more than 20 miles a day can actually go longer in between oil changes, due to the fact that they are maximizing the efficiency and use of their vehicle. That being said, for most drivers here in Salisbury, MD. I would recommend getting the oil change out of one’s vehicle around 3,000 miles. Some people believe that this is a scam in order to get more frequent visits to the shop, but in actuality, it’s a long-term investment by doing so. Changing the oil in your vehicle every 3,000 miles allows the least amount of wear and tear in the engine which will result in less major problems with the engine later down the road. That being said, here at A&C Autocenter we know that 3,000 miles will most likely not be driven in 3 months here in Salisbury. Therefore, please feel free to call for an appointment when you are ready.
