Many people have asked about what they should expect at their MD State Car Inspection appointment at A&C Auto Center, so we decided to put out this post to outline from start to finish!
We will take your information including name, address, and phone of the owner of the vehicle as well as information about the vehicle (make, model, year, VIN).
We are required to conduct a test drive, but before we do, we need to make sure your tire size, construction and air pressure is good to go!
Meanwhile, we also check the exterior & dash lamps, mirrors, hood latches, windshield wipers, seat belts, doors, windows, steering wheel, and brakes. This is crucial to make sure you go home with a vehicle that is safe for your to drive.
All seat belts must be functional. We also test the parking brake functions, neutral safety switch and gear shift indicators.
Anything related to the brakes are checked now as well, including the lights, brake pedal assembly, and brake pedal reserve.
Steering wheel, high beam indicator lights, turn signals, and all the other lights on the dash are checked as well.
Headlamps, fog, and driving lamps are crucial parts to test. Gas tank cap must be functional. Both rear and front bumpers must be intact. Door latches and handles must be functional.
Everything under the hood will be checked at this point. From emission equipment, exhaust, and fuel systems to brake cylinders, brake boosters and fluid levels.
Power steering, steering shafts, and battery and any electrical wiring will be inspected as well.
At this point, we’re going to put your vehicle on the lift and check all the following.
Suspensions, wheel alignment, ball joints, strut bearings, kingpins.
Tires, wheels, and all related components.
Brake shoes and pad linings
Brake drum and disc rotors.
Brake systems.
Exhaust systems.
Engine mount.
And other components that we can see clearly underneath the vehicle.
At this point, Victor will return with the vehicle and give you the outline of your report and all the things that need to be fixed before the vehicle can be passed by MD State Law.
